Great networking

If, like most professionals, networking is pivotal to your business development and professional success, it's worth working on.

Here are some steps you can take to become a great business networker:

  • be helpful  -  network contacts remember who has been helpful, and willingness to enthusiastically and quickly help will set you on the path to becoming a great networker
  • always be positive, enthusiastic, and optimistic  -  this will make you an attractive person with whom to network  -  a "can do" or "make it happen" approach will improve your networking effectiveness
  • do what you say you'll do  -  follow through on your promises and commitments, get back to people you promised to call, and be reliable and dependable
  • take the time and interest to get to know your network contacts  -  remember what matters to them, details about them  -  showing an interest will help enormously
  • take a genuine interest in the achievements, successes, and "wins" of your network contacts  -  not just their problems and requests
  • giving evidence and clear examples of your competence  -  not just making claims.
