Take control of your business development time

By Linda Julian

By taking control of our time, we can often achieve more than we previously though possible.

Here are some quick tips to help you take control of your business development time:

  • list everything you need to do this week  -  assign priorities
  • check what's important  -  not just what's urgent
  • check your goals  -  and identify the steps towards your goals
  • slice up big projects into a series of achievable pieces
  • if you get disheartened pursuing one goal, switch to another of your identified goals
  • don't fall into the trap of taking on lots of new projects and priorities when you're already overloaded on other valuable tasks
  • extract the low return or pay-off activities from your list  -  leave these for when there's time
  • don't fall into the trap of procrastination  -  tasks that just get transferred from one list to another, week after week, either shouldn't be on the list at all, or should be done now.
