Website insights

By Linda Julian

With the ever-growing popularity of the internet as an information source, it is vital to have the right presence on the world wide web.

For those who don’t have a real website yet, make a rapid start.

A presence on the web ensures that people can find you.  The internet is an extremely popular search tool, and without a site, you are probably missing out on valuable business.

A whole generation exists nowadays that don't even consider looking in the White Pages  -  they simply do a Google search.  This means if you don't have a website, you won't be getting their business !

Here are a few hints and tips to consider (even if you already have a website).

Poster-sites

If you have budget constraints that won't allow you to have a fully interactive website, consider a poster-site instead.  This is a page which displays your firm name, contact details (as a minimum), plus a small blurb about what you do, and how you can help.

Branding

Be aware that your website is a vital marketing tool that promotes your firm.  For this reason you should ensure that your site is branded using your firm logo, colours, and fonts.  This ensures that you have a consistent brand image.

Domain name

Make sure that your web address is easy to remember.  From what we see, most people instinctively will type either .com or .com.au, rather than .net or .net.au.

Distinguish your firm

If you aren’t able to register a .com or .com.au site, then try registering something very different, such as .biz or .info.
People will remember your web address because it is different.

Make it easy !  Your website should be user-friendly, and easy to navigate.  If people find your website frustrating, confusing, and hard to navigate, it is highly unlikely that you are going to get their business.
