Concerned about bad press ?

By Linda Julian

Threats of negative publicity have powerful effects on professionals!  Right now, bad news about your practice or business may be an impending reality.

Key to dealing with this well is understanding the media and recognising value in managing media with professional advice, senior management time, and a media strategy.

Astute professionals recognise the huge power of media in informing opinions.

If you have bad news, deal with it quickly, clearly, and without “cover up”.

Use our recommended Care - Action - Perspective formula.

Tell your side of the story forthrightly to improve its prospects of being heard.

It’s the job of the media to present both sides of the argument, so don’t be angry or hostile when they don’t accept your argument without question.  Help journalists get their story accurate by talking with them.  If media get it wrong, tell them and demand that they set the record straight.

Promote your positive news.  Tell the media about your victories, new clients, awards, recognition, new services, and good news too.

In good times and bad, don’t underestimate good media relations.

Harness media power to communicate with wide audiences  -  this will protect and elevate your reputation, most especially for smaller practices.

By targeting media which your clients and prospective clients consume, you’ll win opportunities to establish and develop relationships which eventually lead to business. That’s good news.
