By taking control of our time, we can often achieve more than we previously thought possible.
Here are some quick tips to help you take control of your precious business development time:
- list everything you need to do this week and this month - assign priorities
- check what's important in business development terms - not just what's urgent
- check your goals - and identify the steps towards your goals
- slice up big projects and plans into a series of achievable pieces
- if you are thwarted in pursuing one goal or get disheartened, switch to another of your identified goals
- don't fall into the trap of taking on lots of new business development projects and priorities when you're already overloaded on other valuable tasks where a little more time would probably bring them to fruition
- extract the low return or pay-off activities from your list - leave these for when there's time
- don't fall into the trap of procrastination - tasks that just get transferred from one list to another, week after week, either shouldn't be on the list at all or should be done now.
